The Story of Real Estate and Land Banking

Famous land bankers have become some of the wealthiest people in the world. Many well known people like Donald Trump, Li-Ka Shing, the Mori family and the Rockefellers have made solid and secure profits from land banking.

Historically, land has always played a pivotal role in the ancient and the modern world as a source of wealth, power and economic strength.  Early economic systems from feudalism to mercantilism were all based, in part, on the income derived from agrarian and urban real estate holdings. Meyer Melnikoff, one of the early proponents of real estate's role in a mixed-asset portfolio, was fond of reminding investors that the "Real" in real estate does not come just from its tangible nature.  "Real" is derived from the French and Spanish word for "royal" (as found in Montreal).  It's no coincidence that throughout history royalty were the wealthiest because they were also the original owners of land.  The kings, queens, emperors, monarchs and feudal lords knew the economic benefits of owning property.
